Need to mandate energy efficiency

Danfoss showcases its range of energy efficient drives for various industries in Hyderabad National Award for Excellence in Energy Management was given by CII in association with Danfoss, to energy efficient companies across industries in the country Hyderabad, September 15, 2015:With Indias looming energy crisis it is important for industries to make the best use of existing resources in the country in a judicious manner. Energy efficiency is the panacea for industries and this can be enabled through todays new age technologies provided industries, organisations and even individuals are willing to invest in that initial higher cost for better returns in the near future. In this regard, Variable Frequency Drives from Danfoss are being utilized in many applications across industries to reduce energy consumption. It is a product or subsystem extensively used to adjust the speed and torque characteristics of the motor to suit the applications needs. Variable Frequency Drives are the most successful energy management tools ever applied in significantly lowering energy consumption and costs for industriesand to build HVAC systems. For instance, the energy consumption of 5 Kw motor at rated voltage in blower application is 43800 units if its run by a direct supply (runs throughout the year). When one uses a VFD drive at 80% speed, it 5 kW VFD plus suitable motor consumes about 25,404 units which is close to savings of 18,396 units. Therefore, the overall energy savings achieved is 42%. Recently, Danfoss displayed energy efficient technologies at CII Energy Efficiency Summit held in Hyderabad. These products find application across industries like HVAC, Textile, Cement, Sugar, Power, Paper, Pharma, Chemical and Steel. CII Godrej GBC in association with Danfoss India also hosted the 16th edition of its flagship event, the National Award for Excellence in Energy Management 2015 at Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC) on the side lines of the Energy Efficiency Summit in Hyderabad. This event was a platform for companies to share best practices and their strong commitment towards energy conservation. Awardees were selected based on their initiatives in energy management and innovative products or services that can demonstrably offer significant energy saving benefits. Energy efficiency standards form the vital link between energy policy and the cost of doing business. In fact, our countrys energy future can be decided with the development and implementation of energy-efficient products, technologies, and services. While the government is recognising the efforts of heavy duty industries by allowing trading of energy certificates, it is important that all industries, irrespective of their size, instil the practice of investing in automated and intelligent applications that can improve their operational efficiency at lower energy costs. This would mean more profits for the Company and less impact on the environment- clearly a win-win solution for the government and the industry, said Mr. Kamal Singh, Vice-President, Power Electronics Division, Danfoss India. The National Award for Excellence in Energy Management is an important step towards recognising and encouraging companies that have achieved exemplary energy savings and is a step towards mandating energy efficiency in the near future,he added. While the PAT scheme devised by BEE is being implemented across different industries there is still immense opportunity to further lower consumption across industries. A recent industry report (NITI Ayog) suggests that basis the current consumption pattern the energy demand from Industry is expected to grow to about 5397 TWh/yr by 2027. However, if industries can further strengthen their approach towards energy efficiency, we can expect the demand to reduce to 5143 TWh/yr which is reduction of 254 TWh/yr -equivalent to approximately 42333 Million dollars. Therefore, the opportunities that energy efficiency hold for securing the countrys energy demands are immense. More than 125 companies participated in this industry event from which the most energy efficient companies won awards across categories and sectors like general, automobile sector, metals sector, cement sector, power sector and paper and sugar sector
